WSRBA Duchess
Sylvia Durant

WSRBA DUCHESS - SYLVIA DURRANT

One of the most important awards I’ve won was the 2020 Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association Youth Intermediate Achievement contest. Also in the Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association, I ended both the 2019-2020 and the 2020-2021 show seasons in first place for their Youth Netherland Dwarf sweepstakes.

For the American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club, I ended the 2019-2020 show season in fourth place, which is nine places up from the last show season. Also in the 2019-2020 season, I had six rabbits finish in the American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club’s Youth Rabbit of the Year. In the American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club so far this year, I’m in first place by a pretty large amount and have five rabbits in their Youth Rabbit of the Year listing.

The most important award that I have won with one of my rabbits has to be Best in Show in Antigo, Wisconsin with my homegrown Black Otter Netherland Dwarf senior doe, Dynamite Dwarfs’ Dark Elixer. This award is so important because it’s my first ever homegrown Best in Show. It’s even better because she’s a Black Otter which is a variety that’s very competitive, it’s a big deal even to get a top three in a class of otters. Dark Elixer is now the best rabbit that I have produced and owned with a grand total of 15 legs in only a few months.

I’d like to say thank you to Diana Scribner for helping me to better understand the ins and outs of Shadeds and Himis. This information has stuck with me since I first met Diana and it has been very helpful in the success of my Himis and Shadeds. Another thank you goes out to Angela Penterman for getting me out of my comfort zone, and pushing me to do the royalty contest. I’ve had a lot of fun with it so far!

Of course, the biggest thank you ever goes out to Laura Bruce. I don’t think I could’ve ever asked for a better mentor. Laura has always been there for me, she’s always willing to help me and answer my questions, no matter how dumb they may be. She’s always honest with me and gives some of the best advice ever. Laura also has a bunch of good stories that I could listen to for hours. I honestly have no idea where I would be without Laura. I’m so thankful for her and everything she’s done to help me.
