Skill - a - WHAT?  Yup that's exactly what I thought when I heard that name.    There have been some big changes at the national youth competition for this year.  The division of what use to be "Juniors" aka 5 - 11 yr olds has been split up into a couple of groups, the "pre-juniors" (ages 5 - 7) and the "juniors" (ages 8 - 11).  The pre-juniors will now be competing in a skill-a-thon instead of doing team animal judging.  The juniors will be able to compete in a showmanship competition instead of having team judging.
