How to enter a show! By the Badger Rabbit Club Assoc.
RABBIT SHOW BASICS

Welcome to the Badger Rabbit Breeders Association rabbit show.  We hold one of the largest all-breed shows here in the Midwest and are truly honored to have you as our guest!  If you are new to rabbit showing, you probably have many questions – to help you along, we’ve put together some rabbit show basics.  Everyone was a beginner at one point, so don’t worry if you are confused – stop up at our help desk or stage and ask any Badger RBA member for help.

Enjoy the show and good luck!
Entering the Show
·         Each exhibitor must fill out a separate entry form- entry forms are at our help desk or up at the stage.
·         Exhibitors that are adults (age 19 or over) must show in OPEN against other adult (open) exhibitors
·         Exhibitors who are under age 19 (not yet 19) are YOUTH, but can show in OPEN if they want
·         Rabbits you enter under your name must be owned by YOU
·         All rabbits must have a permanent, readable tattoo in their LEFT ear!
·         You can list all your rabbits on one entry form-even if you have different breeds.
·         Also fill out one remark card for each rabbit you are showing –fill out the top half of the form and mark an ‘O’ for open or a ‘Y’ for youth in one of the upper corners too.  Remark cards are at the help desk or stage and for sale at rabbit vendors.
·         Before the show begins, turn in your entry forms, remark cards and pay your entry fees.  There are separate lines for Youth and Open.
·         If you any have questions about entering, which classes to show your rabbits in, etc, be sure to stop at our Badger RBA ‘help booth’ before you enter – we can answer your questions and help you get into the right classes!
The Show
·         Once you are entered in the show, you wait for your breed(s) to be called for judging.  Breeds are usually announced over the PA system so listen carefully throughout the day as announcements can be difficult to hear.  Be on time for your class!
·         Breed variety or group classes – most are judged in alphabetical order, ex: in Polish, first blacks are shown, then blue, then broken, etc.  If your breed only has solid and broken as groups, usually all the solids are judged first. (there are variations and exceptions – see the Standard of Perfection to be sure.)
·         Within each group or variety, rabbits are judged in the following order:  1)senior bucks 2)senior does 3)intermediate bucks 4)intermediate does (IF your breed has an intermediate class) 5)junior bucks 6)junior does.
·         When your rabbit’s class is called, put your rabbit in a box at the judging table.  Watch rabbits so they stay in boxes!
·         Some etiquette: don’t talk during judging, don’t go behind the judging tables, don’t point out your rabbit to the judge.
·         The judge will judge your rabbit – listed carefully to his/her comments.  The ’writer’ will record your rabbit’s placement and comments on the remark card.  Your rabbit will be handed back to you if he/she doesn’t win the class.
·         You can leave the show when you are finished showing all your rabbits – don’t forget to pick up your remark card copies and stop up at the stage to get your ribbons or awards.  We give out ribbons to third place.
·         If you won Best of Breed (congrats!!!) don’t leave yet- stay for the Best In Show competition later in the day!
After The Show
About a month after the show, your ‘show report’ (how you did/points earned) will be available for you to pick up – usually at the next few local rabbit shows in Wisconsin.  If you don’t pick it up, it will eventually be mailed to you.
We encourage you to join some rabbit clubs –A few important clubs to join:  The American Rabbit Breeders Association (www.arba.net), and the Wisconsin RBA, (www.WSRBA.ORG). Badger RBA is welcoming new members too!
We hope your first rabbit show was a success!  After only a few shows you’ll feel right at home, and make some new friends!
